Ladies, why attend the Women’s Table Talk Meeting?

So what makes the Women’s Table Talk group different from other networking groups? A few important facts….first, it has been going on for the past 14 years! Started by Catherine Simpson and Joy Thompson through the FTW Women’s Business Center(no longer in North Texas) when it was located in the Water Gardens Place downtown.

The second awesome reason…Joy Thompson is still the facilitator!I first attended in 1998 while she was president of her company, Rebar Sales and Service, a very successful business. As a woman business owner, Joy was always in the corner of other women business owners. Even more awesome is the fact that Joy has since sold her company, retired, but continues to be in our corner! Thanks Joy!!!

Lastly, and most importantly, the Women’s Table Talk Meeting is geared to supporting any and all women in business. If you’re a home-based business, owner of a large corporation, employee or in transition, we’re here for you. That made such a difference to me when I first attended this group. Joy asked me these questions, “How can we help you? Really help you?” It wasn’t just about leads, but true honest to goodness help. I knew then this was the group for me…and I’ve been at the opposite end of the table from Joy for 14 years!!! I also knew all my friends should be there too. We grew from 4 ladies to what we have now….an average of 45-50 ladies each month. Our record is 57~

Now that you have the history, here are a few more facts…..the cost is $2.00 per month, there is no “exclusivity”, all are welcome, you can have a display table for free (limited number),topic of discussion, network with plenty of space to have one-on-one’s after the meeting.

So make sure one of your “resolutions” is to attend the Women’s Table Talk Meeting each month on the 3rd Tuesday during 2011.

Hope to see you there!

Push Vs. Pull Marketing

The business terms push and pull originated from logistics and supply chain management, but are also widely used in marketing!

A push-pull-system in business describes the movement of a product or information between two subjects. Consumers usually “pull” the goods or information they demand for their needs, while the suppliers “pushes” their wares toward consumers.
Push Strategy
In marketing, “push” can be found in the communication between seller and buyer. Depending upon the medium used, the communication can be either interactive or non-interactive. For example, if the seller promotes via television or radio, it’s not possible for the buyer to interact. On the other hand, if the communication is made by phone or internet, the buyer has the ability to interact with the seller.

In the first case information is just “pushed” toward the buyer, while in the second case it is possible for the buyer to demand the needed information according to his requirements.

Pull Strategy

In a “pull” system the consumer requests the product and “pulls” it through the delivery channel. An example of this is the car manufacturing company Ford Australia. Ford Australia only produces cars when they have been ordered by the customers.

Business training in Fort WorthThat Is A Great Question!

Being in business is great! You are in control of your own destiny, but it has both pros and cons. The pros are you make most of the decisions, nobody tells you what to do, if you want to make more money you just add new customers or add to your product line.

The cons are you make most of the decisions, nobody tells you what to do, and if you want to make more money you have to get new customers or add to your product line. Like some people we go into business for a couple of reasons: 1) We are good at doing something and believe we can create a successful business, or 2) We leave former employment for various reasons and decide to venture out on our own.

Nothing is wrong with either of those two reasons. Many successful businesses have been built as a result. However one mistake that is often made is those businesses begin without the benefit of having a strong business foundation. Many of us believe that if we are good, and I mean really good, at something it automatically will translate into a successful business. Or if we have excelled at running your employer’s company we can do the same with our own. Both assumptions are far from the truth and as you know, “it is the truth that will set you free”.

Being able to diagnose a troubled engine by just hearing helps if you’re a mechanic, but does not help when you need to decide whether to be a sole proprietor or to incorporate. There are a number of factors to consider that are not obvious to the uninformed. Making a mistake here could have life-long consequences for you and your business. Just because you were an excellent accountant does not mean you are familiar with insurance requirements or who are your best potential customers. It makes no sense to pursue markets that are saturated or try to be cost competitive thinking you’ll be more profitable. If you can’t find business where you are, you may need to relocate or extend your territory to surrounding cities, counties or regions. Today your customer base may be residential; tomorrow it is commercial, governmental or even international.

These components as well as personnel, startup costs, and a financial plan are the fundamental beginning for establishing a successful business. Believing you can do so on your own is a grave mistake. There are a number of sources out there to help you with this type of training. Some are better than others. Cost and time commitments range based on your experience. Yes, any business you embark on will require an investment of time and money. Starting out with a sound business plan is the best investment you can make. In the end it will you the best return on your investment. There is an old adage that says: “if you fail to plan, you plan to fail.”
